NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways released a new report today detailing the expected impacts of the E20 petrol blend mandate rolling out across major cities this quarter.
While testing has confirmed that the ethanol-blended fuel significantly improves overall engine performance and ride quality, it comes with a slight trade-off regarding fuel efficiency.
Environmental Benefits
"Consumers will notice a smoother acceleration curve, particularly in urban stop-and-go traffic," a ministry spokesperson explained. "However, the energy density of ethanol is slightly lower, which translates to a marginal dip in the fuel average."
The policy aims to reduce India's crude oil import dependency and cut vehicular emissions by up to 14%. Automakers have already begun rolling out E20-compliant vehicles across all segments.
